On Tuesday October 30th, South Providence staff met at the State Employees’ Credit Union, Waxhaw branch, to drop off supplies the school gathered throughout the month of October.
The “SECU Supports the Troops” campaign, in it’s third year, is a program designed to give some creature comforts for deployed North Carolina troops. Among the items collected were soaps, shampoos, moisturizing wipes, playing cards, snacks and drink mixes, razors, gum and chap-stick.
The current SPS staff includes many personnel with a military background. This added another layer of connection to the campaign as many from the school could directly relate to what it is like to open a care package when one is stationed thousands of miles from home. Principal Barry Ross, retired Army Colonel said, “Items from home mean a lot. It means we have not been forgotten.”
Here is hoping all our troops enjoy the small tokens we were able to send them and may they all return safely to North Carolina.
